Merijn Tinga, also known as the plastic soup surfer, is a Dutch surfer that turned into an anti-waste expert and activist. Ever since we dived more into plastic waste and the impact that it has on the environment, we have been following him closely. When he asked us to do a collaborative t-shirt, we joined in without hesitation. For every t-shirt sold, 50% of the profits will be donated directly to support the Plastic Soup Surfer foundation and its mission.

The beechwood in this mixed fabric makes this t-shirt extremely soft and gives it antibacterial properties, while organic cotton creates a straight fit. The cobalt blue color is inspired by natural shades and fits perfectly with the philosophy of the Plastic Soup Surfer. For the design, both the Iron Roots and the Plastic Soup Surfer logos have been placed on the chest, in order to emphasize our unity.

As we want to avoid overproduction, this product will be in pre-sale for the coming two weeks, after which they will be produced for each individual and their desired size. This way we avoid waste and only produce what is really needed. As this is a custom product, returns are not possible and thus we advise you to double-check the size chart above before ordering.

This t-shirt has a regular fit and is tailored around the arms. If you usually have size M with your t-shirts, you should also pick size M with this one.

Our male model is 180 cm / 5'11" and is wearing size XL.
Our female model is 176 cm / 5'9" and is wearing size S.

This t-shirt is made from a durable mix of 50% TENCEL™ Modal and 50% organic cotton.

All of our products are made from natural materials, which don’t need as harsh cleaning treatments as other, synthetic sportswear. We suggest the following care instructions for all of our products, to ensure that they will keep their performance and last longer.

▪ Wash at 30 degrees.
▪ Don’t tumble dry.
▪ Don’t use bleach.
▪ Iron with medium heat.
▪ Wash with the same colors.
▪ Natural fabrics can shrink a little bit after washing them, which we have taken into account with our sizing.

This product is designed in our headquarters in The Netherlands. We produce our sportswear locally (within Europe), to ensure sustainability, responsible sourcing, and ethical production. This product is produced at our factory in Greece. Our factory has GOTS and SMETA certifications, and we visit them on a regular basis. Besides that, we work with them to source our raw materials, yarns, and fabrics from European countries, which is something we are very dedicated to at Iron Roots.

TENCEL™ Modal
This material is sourced from European FSC certified forests, where beechwood trees are grown and regrown when they are used to create products. They are then further processed by Lenzing in Austria, which has won multiple awards for their sustainability efforts and who are widely regarded as some of the most sustainable and innovative manufacturers in the clothing industry.

Organic Cotton
Our organic cotton is GOTS certified and sourced within Europe. By having the GOTS certificate, we can ensure that our cotton has been grown responsibly and with ethical circumstances for the people involved in the processing of our organic cotton.

Sustainable shipping
All of our shipments are CO₂ compensated, made possible by our partners at The Green Branch. Besides that, we don’t use any plastics in our packaging. To keep our clothing in good condition while they travel to you, we package them in paper-based bags and ship them in cardboard boxes. This means that all of our packaging can be put in the paper bin and recycled. Lastly, we use recycled paper and cardboard wherever we can.

Costs and delivery times
Different delivery costs will apply to different countries. These costs will be provided at the checkout. The delivery times can be from 1 to 14 days, depending on the country. After you placed your order, you will get an email with your tracking number and estimated delivery time.

Returns and exchanges
Any product can be returned or exchanged up to 14 days after your order has arrived at your address. This can be done through our return portal. After we have received the goods and checked them, we will send you a new product or repay you the amount we owe you within 30 days. Unfortunately, we cannot refund any return costs, and these will be deducted from the repayment.
